ZimJournalists Arise does not normally publish general news stories as it is not part of our core business, but the team just thought it would circulate this, in view of Timothy Mubhawu’s statements. It is important to note that his statements were against a law that it is not only mean’t to protect WOMEN but our CHILDREN, CHILDREN like this one, who could be YOUR child.

Harare)
A HARARE man and his two sons reportedly raped his 12-year-old daughter separately since she was three in what ranks as one of the most unnerving cases of sexual assault.

The girl only disclosed the assault to her teacher following a lecture on child sexual abuse by officials from Girl Child Network at school.

The father (57) and the girl’s two dreadlocked brothers — aged 24 and 21 — were yesterday brought to the Harare Magistrates’ Courts, facing several counts of rape.

They were not asked to plead when they briefly appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga who remanded them in custody to November 2 this year.

Their trial opens on December 12.

Outlining the State case, prosecutor Mr Servious Kufandada told the court that in 1997, on several occasions, the father would take the girl to his bedroom and make her sit on his lap before raping her.

It is also the State’s case that during the same year, the two brothers would each follow the girl to the toilet where they would rape her.

The State alleges that at times the unsuspecting mother of the girl would ask her sons to accompany their younger sister to the toilet where they would take advantage and rape her.

According to the State, at times the boys and their father would allegedly rape the girl outside the house while other family members were away.

The State further alleges that the father last raped his daughter last year while the two brothers continued up to early this month.

On October 10, Girl Child Network sent some educators to the school who lectured the pupils on rape and sexual abuse.

Following this, the girl finally disclosed her traumatic experiences to her teacher, who reported the case to police.

The girl is being housed at a children’s home for safety pending the outcome of the case.

In an interview, an official with the home said they were arranging to return the girl to her mother since her alleged abusers have been remanded in custody and if convicted were unlikely to be at liberty until the girl is well into adulthood.

The girl’s mother, teacher and sister — who were in court yesterday — are expected to testify as State witnesses.
